The main shaft is a central component for safety, it is the connection between the engine and the rear wheel. Original Innocenti main shafts are more than 50 years old and nobody can be sure what has happened to the main shaft during this time. The mainshaft can shear off at the transition from the thread to the mainshaft, especially if it is installed incorrectly with excessive torque. This is an enormous risk that can be avoided with a new, good quality main shaft.
The required tightening torque for the new rear brake drums with an 8° cone is 147-161 Nm. Tighten to the lower value of 147 Nm using a torque wrench and then check whether the locking plate for the rear wheel nut can be fitted. If this is not the case, gradually increase the tightening torque until one of the holes in the brake drum is aligned with the hole in the locking plate. Insert the hexagon socket screw of the locking plate with medium-strength threadlocker and tighten to a tightening torque of 14 to 14.7 Nm.
